Light-bodied and slightly sweet, our Vidal Blanc is a crisp and fruity wine with accents of apples, pears, and grapefruit. A great aperitif wine! An excellent complement to chicken, veal, and fruit salads. Serve chilled at 45 degrees. Precent of sweetness: 1%
Vintner's Comment:
Like Chambourcin, Vidal Blanc is one of the grape vines that adapts the best to the Mid Atlantic region, or even all the Atlantic coast, even all the way up to Canada. Very characteristic is the grape skins that are really thick and tough which allows the grape to stay on the vine way past normal harvest time for other grape varieties. That's why a lot of Vidal is used in late harvest wines or in ice wines in Canada. Vidal is a semi sweet white wine with a crisp, light body and mouthfeel, and I would say it displays fairly strong pineapple tones. It has a great acidity level that gives it its crispiness, and it also has some citrus tones like grapefruit.
Our Vidal is blended with another estate grape called Traminette which is an offspring of another German grapevine Gewurztraminer, which is more aromatic and also adds more spicey undertones to the blend. We add around 10-15% in, depending on our annual wine harvest of Vidal. We grow Traminette for these types of wine enhancements/blends, but we don't grow Traminette to produce it as a wine in itself. Vidal pairs well with lighter meats like turkey breast, chicken, salads, white fish, and nonfried foods.

Similar to a riesling
So Hopewell Valley Vineyards doesn't produce my favorite wine - riesling. But at my winery tasting they recommended I try their Vidal Blanc, and I was pleasantly surprised. This will be my go-to HVV white wine.
